Dear Gloria,

First of all, let me apologize again for my cancellation and thank you for your kind help.

We are 4 old Chinese, one old couple and two old friend ladies. We will stay 27 nights on the South Island during our tour to NZ

When I planed our itinerary, to every place we will stay I had some options for accommodation but Oamaru. To Oamaru, I had only one choice, it was the Old Bones though the cost was a little beyond our budget average. Not only for its location, its beautiful scenery, its famous large living room, but also for the kindness of its host and hostess. But recently some Chinese visitors reported some negative information about Old Bones. We accept your rules and think they are reasonable. We like quietness since we are old too. But we can not accept reported unfreindness to the quest. I hadn't believed these stories in the beginning and thought they must be caused by our Chinese young guy's improper behaviors. But the story comes more and more and I believed some part of them at last. To avoid possible unhappiness I decide to cancel our reservation

Following are two recent articles about Old Bones in one tourist BBS I land often. I am sorry that you may not understand them since they were written in Chinese

http://bbs.qyer.com/thread-770876-1.html

http://bbs.qyer.com/thread-778462-1.html

Please don't mind my directness of explanation. I hope we still have chance to see your beautiful Old Bones and say hello to you during our driving on the coast road from Dunedin to Oamaru on 22 April.

 best regards/Jack

Hello Jack:

Thank you very much for your honesty – this is really appreciated and I hope you will read my comments below and reconsider your visit to Old Bones Lodge.

We really love having Chinese guests visit with us and have shared many wonderful times – including the many Chinese who visit us for the Chinese New Year.

True, we have rules  and  are  flexible – we are open to discussion when a guest approaches us to stay longer than the 10am checkout..  We provide to our guests free Wi-Fi unlimited throughout their visit –some guests take advantage of  our free offer and  do not leave their rooms  until well after check out time.   With the rooms being fully occupied the washing  takes up to  4 hours to complete .

We clean our rooms, kitchen and bathroom  to a high standard and like to ensure we have enough time for this prior to guests arriving.

With regard to cooking have finished cooking by 9.30pm – we have guests who have flown in on an international flight  Old Bones being their  first stop on their journey – they are exhausted and look forward to a quiet evening without a lot of noise being made in the kitchen – firstly from the cooking and then the cleaning up.

A recent guest noted in our guest book about the unfriendliness of an American couple – this couple were  guests in the Lodge – These guests visited with us for 2 nights and their comments in the book were excellent regarding Old Bones.  The  group who left bad comments also  left our bathrooms in a disgraceful mess.

We are approachable and if any guests are upset  we would like to resolve them personally rather than bad comments on the internet.  We really value our reputation.

Please allow me to apologise  and we  would like to offer your group a discounted price to visit Old Bones Lodge?  Perhaps you could advise us on the Chinese etiquette and make suggestions regarding the rules  to provide our wonderful guests a happy and comfortable visit at Old Bones Lodge.

Yours sincerely in good faith

Hello again Jack:

Firstly, thank you for sending the me links regarding comments about Old Bones Lodge.  Please note: Old Bones does not have dormitories as advertised we have twin and double rooms only.   I have also searched our comments book where guests are free to leave comments and apart from one – our guests are extremely happy and wished they had stayed longer.

Wayne & myself are mortified at the comments regarding rules.

As we were away from Old Bones Lodge at this time we left a well respected couple to run the Lodge whilst we attended to a family member suffering a severe medical crisis in the North Island.

The rules that are on the web site are identical to rules in BBH hostels & other accommodation providers throughout New Zealand.  We are sorry guests have taken exception to this.  New Zealand is endeavouring to become smoke free within the next few years and our comments on non smoking are becoming internationally accepted.

Once again, we would like to extend a welcome to your party by offering a discounted rate for the visit.

Thank you again.

Respectfully

Gloria & Wayne Bason

Dear Gloria,

Many thanks for your kind offer. I learn your situation very well. Many Chinese like and come to Old Bones because of Qyer BBS and now some Chinese give up Old Bones also because of Qyer BBS

As an old man, I hate noisy, hate smoking smell too. I fully understand and accept and appreciate your rules. The most people on Qyer BBS did not oppose your rules, but don't like the unfriendliness of managers. I am sorry I can not translate all their comment into English for you right now but I believe the Deutsch-spoken couple should make some changes if you don't like to lose more Chinese quests. Tear off the bad comment page from the message book and evict the writer of bad comment from bed at midnight, it was too fulsome. Some guys said they stayed at many BBHs during their visit to New Zealand and all were very pleasant, but the experience at Old Bones is the most unhappy.......

I am sorry I have booked another motel in Oamaru and can not accept your kind offer and my cancellation is not means bargain with you but I thank you as the same. Hope all misunderstanding and difficult will pass over soon.

best regards/Jack

Dear Jack:

Thank you for your time to acknowledge the situation at Old Bones – Wayne & I really appreciate your generosity.

We acknowledge the problem and wish to resolve this without delay as we value our Chinese guests very much.

As of today the rules will no longer be posted.  The couple who have managed the lodge in our absence (due to family  medical emergency) will no longer be residing at the Lodge – they are leaving New Zealand next month.

We wish to sincerely apologise to the people who have received a bad experience at Old Bones and wish

Chinese guests to return and enjoy Old Bones unreservedly.

With kind regards,

Respectfully

Gloria & Wayne Bason

Old Bones Lodge.

Dear Gloria,

Many thanks for your kind offer which I can not accept now since you did not owe me anything. Please note it is also my pleasure and duty to keep good fame and reputation of New Zealand No. 1 BBH-Old Bones. Please let me know without hesitate if you would like me to do anything to help recuperate Old Bones fame in Chinese quests

I only wish to take a picture with this world famous Lodge when I pass it in the afternoon of 22 April, like many Chinese visitors who have no opportunity to spend one or more nights in it

We will also stay in some other BBHs like Kinloch-Lodge and Tailor-Made-Tekapo during our April tour. We will enjoy a lot

best regards/Jack

Hello Jack

I am overwhelmed with your generosity – thank you does not seem enough.

We would welcome a visit from your group/family and have no idea how to repay your kindness –  we look forward to providing an exceptional welcome to guests from China in the future and hope to destroy the past image.

Once again, we are both unbelievable grateful.
